Borreguita and the Coyote: A Tale from Ayutla, Mexico

After reading the book to Mrs. Larkin's first grade class at Myers-Ganoung Elementary, a discussion among the children ensued about the book's main ideas. After the discussion, each student drew a picture of his or her most vivid memory from the story. Their pictures expressed their impressions of the hungry coyote and the "tricky" lamb, a direct reflection of their post-reading conversation.

This is a selection of their work:

This is a drawing of the lamb and the coyote in the meadow.
Tommy M.

This is a drawing of the coyote trying to swallow the moon.
Alexis V.

This is a drawing of the lamb holding up the mountain; the coyote looks on.
Crystal C.
