The Best Alphabet Book in the Wild West

Before I read the book, the preschool students and I sang our ABC's to prepare us for the alphabet book. Then after reading, we took a short walk around the outside of the school to explore an actual southwest environment. I then asked the students to draw and color a picture that would represent something they heard about in the story or saw in the illustrations. While the students were drawing, I worked individually with children by looking through the book and picking out words or pictures to form acrostic poems with the letters of their names.
