Counting Arizona's Treasures
Book Review:
Terri Fields, with the beautiful photographs taken of Arizona by Tony
Marinella, writes a counting book entitled Counting Arizona's Treasures.
The pictures perfectly show the scenic natural and man-made attractions
of the 48th state. Fields strategically takes the reader throughout
the whole picturesque state. By using rhyme, Fields creates a pattern
so that children will want to continue to read and match the rhyming
words with the next corresponding number. With lizards as the main characters,
she begins with ten and has they run and play across the state until
only one is left. After they have all experienced their new locations,
they reunite and talk about the new places that they have seen.
At the end of the book, a map and brief description is provided to
describe each of the places visited by the lizards. A few other famous
Arizona sites are described here as well to give the reader a broad
view of the entire state. This helps the readers distinguish the exact
location of the sites and also helps them to become more familiar with
the state of Arizona and why its history and landmarks are significant.
