Coyote Raid in Cactus Canyon

I had the opportunity to read Coyote Raid in Cactus Canyon on two separate occasions at the Scottsdale Civic Center Library. Afterwards, I spoke with the kids who came to listen about the book. Here are some drawings they did after I read the story.

Dennis's drawing

This picture was done by Dennis,
and it shows a desert scene
with colorful clouds and an owl in the cactus.

Miami's drawing

This picture was done by Miami,
and it also shows the desert.

I asked Miami and Dennis what their favorite part of the story was.

"My favorite part of the story was when the coyotes chased the animals." -Miami

"My favorite part of the story was when the bird made her nest out of coyote fur." -Dennis

I spoke with Sophie about the book and asked her some questions about what she liked and why and what she thought the theme of the book was.

"It was a fun story. I have seen rabbits and quail. I thought the coyotes were going to push the other animals. If you push other people around, people might push you around. The pictures showed what the animals might do. It was a realistic story because the animals didn't talk, and I liked that because it could actually happen." -Sophie
