Desert Giant: The World of the Saguaro Cactus
Book Review:
This book chronicles the life cycle of the saguaro cactus. The book
tells of the people and animals that use the saguaro as part of daily
life. From daytime animals and birds, to nighttime beasts, to insects
and arachnids, to the Tohono O'odham tribe, all are covered in this
fantastic informational book. The book provides pictures and details
of the different ways birds make nests, American Indians use the fruit
for food, and the ways rodents and reptiles make dens and nests in the
dead cacti. The illustrations are large, colorful and portray accurate
landscapes of the Sonoran Desert, which spans parts of Arizona, California
and northern Mexico. Every double page spread has a new, beautiful picture.
This is a magnificent book for learning about one of the great wonders
of the stunning Sonoran Desert the saguaro cactus. Barbara Bash did
an extraordinary job.
