I read this book to a fourth grade class and I asked them to respond to the following questions:

What do you know about the desert ?

Wolves eat meat.

Lots of animals live in the desert.

I know horned toads throw blood through their eyes.

The desert gets a little rainfall.

We live in the desert.

After hearing the story A Desert Scrapbook what have you learned ?

There are patterns in the desert.

Vultures live in the desert.

Javelinas travel in groups and eat prickly pear.

Toads live underground for a year until it rains a lot again.

Why do you think the author wrote the story ?

Kids can learn about the desert.

She likes the desert.

So, kids could learn about the desert.

Maybe, when she gets older, she can tell stories about the desert animals.

Kids learn about the desert.
