Mi primer libro de dichos/My First Book of Proverbs

Book Review:

Mi primer libro de dichos/My First Book of Proverbs is a collection of sayings, written and illustrated by Ralfka Gonzalez and Ana Ruiz. These proverbs were found throughout Mexico and the U.S. during their travels. These two artists created brilliant and colorful drawings corresponding to each proverb. Each page brings understanding of the proverb with beautiful imagery depicting a deeper meaning of the Mexican culture.

Written in both English and Spanish, the proverbs represent an array of language, including an array of sayings that use figurative language. With great knowledge, the dichos encompass the reality of life reminding us that, "A lesson well learned is never forgotton," or "What you don't like in others could be in your own house." Readers will be able to relate picture to text with symbolic folk art paintings characterizing part of the Mexican culture. Although this book needs no assistance in getting its meanings across, the introduction written by Sandra Cisneros, helps all readers relate to and understand the value behind these proverbs.

This book speaks to all types of readers with its clever proverbs.
