Grand Canyon: Exploring a Natural Wonder

After the book was read, students in Mrs. Stolz's second-grade class at Cerbat Elementary School in Kingman, Arizona wrote poems about the Grand Canyon using an extensive list of descriptive words and adjectives. These are some examples of the poems students created. Please note poems have been edited for spelling and mechanics.

The Grand Canyon
The tiny pretty purple mountains are amazing
And the butterflies are pretty
The water is clean and quiet
The creatures are nice
And tiny people like to take a view
And take pictures
The cliffs are split apart

~Written by Amanda

It is awfully quiet
As pretty as can be
It is very awesome
It has a great view
It is very huge
It is very colorful
It is all so cool
The water has fish
It has lots of trees
It has great cliffs
Also the rocks are purple
It has a big river
Falcons are cool
Sometimes it is stormy
People visit too
You can take great pictures
Then let's go home

~Written by Joshua

The stream is very natural
The cliffs are very huge
The stream is very colorful
And the weather is very cool
The creatures are very small
The butterflies are very pretty
The roses are red
The stream is blue
And I know you like it too
You can get a good view
And you can see it too

~Written by Joshua
The bees that buzz in the deserts
The weather is very rainy and nice
Everything is clean and nice
Everything is like magic
And the creatures are very awesome
The mountains are very colorful
And everything is purple and blue
And there is a colorful view

~Written by Brice

The pictures are just perfect
The rainbow is shinny just like gold
And the rocks look purple
The squirrels jump around
The creatures are pretty
Bees are very thirsty
The grass is nice and green
The animals are amazing
And the view is very pretty

~Written by Alexandria

The Grand Canyon is cool
So is the Colorado River
They are very nice
Also he (the author) told about the weather
And he told about nice things
The story was surprising but cool
He drew very cool pictures of the Grand Canyon
The pictures are natural and of the sky
I went to the Grand Canyon Caverns
And it was fun!

~Written by Randee

The Grand Canyon is very nice
The weather is rainy
The mountains are very green
The cliffs are very purple
The desert is quiet as a mouse
The animals are feeling wild
The grass is very beautiful

~Written by Dalton

Tall, pretty, magical, surprising plants
Hot, hot, rainy, cold, purple, falcon, desert flowers
Fish, water, rainbow, pictures
Cool animals and creatures
Quiet deer, grass, wild flowers
Huge trees, blue sky

~Written by Melanie

Awesome, amazing, beautiful, cool, pretty view
Tall, big, huge, the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon has a beautiful view

~Written by Gabriel

At the desert is nature
Is coming my way every day forever
And mountains are rocks
At the deserts they have wild animals
Mostly they have insects all the time

~Written by Issac
