How the Stars Fell into the Sky

Lesson Plan

Topic: Reading How the Stars Fell into the Sky to a group of students

Grade Level: Combo class of 1st and 2nd graders.

Objective: The children will get to experience a story of a Navajo Legend about how the stars became part of the sky.

Materials: the book, paper, and color pencils

Conducting the Lesson:

1. Read the book to the students. 5-10 minutes

2. Talk about the book and illustrations. 5-10 minutes

3. Hand out the paper and colored pencils and ask students to draw a favorite picture from the book and write about their drawings. 10-15 minutes

4. Share the drawings with one another and answer any questions. 10-15 minutes

Curriculum Correlation: Study of the stars or the study of other legends from other Indian tribes.
