Lizards for Lunch: A Roadrunner's
Tale
Book Review:
This colorful and animated informational book by Conrad Storad uses
humor and a rhyming roadrunner poem to teach about this intriguing and
speedy desert bird. The whimsical watercolor and pen and ink illustrations
of Beth Neely and Don Rantz will entertain the readers as they learn
about what roadrunners eat, what they look like, their habits, and their
habitat. The author also includes two pages at the end of the book packed
with more detailed information for the roadrunner researcher. There
are numerous curricular connections to science topics such as animal
behavior, Southwest desert animals, and birds. Lizards for Lunch
could also be a light-hearted addition to studies of poetry and
art.
There is an interview
with Conrad Storad on this Web site.
