Lizards for Lunch: A Roadrunner's Tale

Students in Mrs. Fowler’s second grade class listened to the book Lizards for Lunch and then discussed what they had learned about what roadrunners like to eat.  Each student wrote a recipe for a roadrunner, and the recipes ideas included yummy favorites like: Lizard Soup, Spaghetti Beetles, and Lizard Pizza.

Here are four examples of Roadrunner Recipes:

 

Lizards on Lettuce

Ingredients
4 Lettuces
6 Lizards
7 Croutons
10 Bacons
Ranch Dressing

Directions
1. Lettuce - crunch
2. Lizards - on lettuce
3. Croutons - on lizards
4. Bacon - on croutons
5. Ranch Dressing - on top of everything

Tortilla and Snake and Cheese

Ingredients
2 tortillas
1 half of a snake
6 slices of cheese

Directions
1. Get the tortilla
2. Get snake and the cheese
3. Put on the tortilla
4. Bake it

Lizards and Bugs

Ingredients
4 C Hot Water
5 Lizards
7 Bugs
Rice

Directions
1. Pour hot water into pot
2. Then put rice in
3. Put lizards in
4. Put bugs in
5. Cook in oven two hours

Lizard Pizza

Ingredients
Lizard
Dough
Cheese

Directions
1. Get a cheese pizza
2. Catch a lizard and kill it
3. Put lizard on pizza
4. Bake it for an hour
5. Give it to the roadrunners

Serves Six
