The Night the Grandfathers Danced

This is a third-grade student's response to the book:

As the student began drawing, I noticed that he had paid special attention to what was going on in the backgound of the illustrations in the story. When asked to explain his illustration, he said that he had seen the horses in the backgound and the cracked dirt in the foreground. The student further explained that he had drawn a picture of his own life: horses, cactus, and sand.

The drawing shows a saguaro, two horses, and a person.
