what environment they live in; what sound they make; how dangerous they
are; what to do if you see one; to spell the words related to snakes
and everything else that correlates to snakes.
Grade Level: First Grade
Time and Space: This lesson will take approximately 30 minutes.
Materials: - Vocabulary - History of snakes - Imagination
Procedures:
Anticipatory set: Discuss snakes with students. Ask them if they've
ever seen a snake before and if so, what they did about it. Then, we'll
discuss what environment they live in and create an image from their
imaginations, and lastly, to incorporate English into the lesson by
practicing their spelling of terms related to snakes.
Vocabulary:
To describe: is to use words and phrases to create a mental picture
of where a snake lives.
Descriptive adjectives: words that describe a particular aspect or characteristic
of snakes.
Closure: Discuss their ideas about snakes. Discuss what thoughts came
to their minds that they might consider drawing about. Ask if there
are any questions that they might have about what we just discussed.
Discuss the purpose for this activity.
Connections to other content: This lesson could be integrated into
an art lesson by having students create their own book covers and draw
their own pictures. They would then present their drawings to the class.
