The Table Where Rich People Sit
Book Review:
The Table Where Rich People Sit is a wonderful Southwest children's
book that portrays the importance of family and values. The illustrations
are beautiful and they feature the Sonoran Desert. The story begins
with a family that meets at their old homemade kitchen table as a request
of their daughter. She wants to discuss the issue of money. Mountain
girl feels as though her parents need to find real jobs like other children's
parents have in her class at school. Her parents choose to work outside
in nature instead of inside at professions that are more typical. She
does not understand why she wears old clothes and why they do not have
the material objects that others enjoy. Mountain girl and her family
decide to make a list of all their possessions. She soon discovers just
how wealthy her family is when she realizes that outdoor beauty and
nature can be more valuable than money.
