Lesson Plan:
4/19/00
Read Byrd Baylor's poetry omitting the animals' specific name and ask
the kids to guess from a prepared list of four animals which desert
animal the poem is about. As they listen to the reading, they will shape
clay balls into the cues they hear and justify their decisions.
Goal:
-to use poetry information creatively -to use poetry to create original
artwork
-student artwork will be published on a computer web page
Objectives:
-students will listen and analyze the poetry of Byrd Baylor
-students will create an original piece of artwork from clay, inspired
by the poem
-students will discuss the mental process and reasons for making their
clay selections based on what they heard in the poem
Core Curriculum:
Language Arts:
-students will focus on the oral information of a poem
-students will create original artwork that expresses what they heard
-students will share verbally their observations and thoughts during
the lesson
Science:
-students will discuss the animal's habitat and lifestyle as they mold
their clay shape
Art:
-student will express themselves using clay
-students' artwork will be displayed on a computer web page
