Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport

The letter is a joint work by one of the after school programs at Wright Elementary. After we read the book Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport, we spoke about all the things that were said that were just silly and decided to write a letter to the little boy who was moving out West.

Dear Little Boy,

I just wanted to let you know that Tucson is a wonderful place. Even though it is very, very, very, very hot in the summer, I love it here. There are many things to do and places to see. I like to spend time at the Desert Museum and Old Tucson. After that I normally go to the Tucson Mall and get some cookies and a drink. We do not all wear cowboy hats, I have a Nike hat that I wear everyday, except when I have to take it off in school. We do have a lot of cactus in Tucson, but I have never sat on one. I'm very happy about that, because it would hurt, really bad. I have never met a sheriff and I don't talk slowly at all. My mother always tells me to slow down and think before I speak. We play all the same games you do: we play jump rope, tag, wall ball, and basketball. I would never own chaps or spurs. You should come out to Tucson to see that we are the same.

It would be fun!

Your Friend,
The Gila Monster

P.S. I never go to the airport.
