A Heart Full of Turquoise: Pueblo Indian Tales

During lunch a small group of fifth graders volunteered to listen and respond to "Frog and Locust." During the reading, the students were able to interact by singing the rain song. After the story, the students were asked to draw a picture of what the story represented to them and to write a sentence or two explaining their favorite part or what they thought the story was about. They said, "The activity was fun and Joe Hayes' stories are great."

This story is great for team work. Also, it is about locusts and frogs singing a rain song for rain.

There was a frog and a locust. They had to sing to the mountain so it could rain. I like the story because there were frogs and locusts.

I thought the story is a really good story.
I like the frog but I also like the locust.
