How Jackrabbit Got His Very Long Ears

After sharing this book with a first grade class at Richardson Elementary, I asked each child to draw a picture of their favorite animal and then to tell in a word bubble why that animal was special. Here are a few of the responses:

(Horse) "I'm special because I can kick hard."

(Panda) "I am special because I have a special thumb."

-Katie

The drawing shows a horse and panda conversing.

The drawing shows a bobcat with a short tail.

"The bobcat has a short tail because he won't get stuck."

- Brooke

I'm a dinosaur. I'm special because I ruled the world."

-Kody

The drawing shows a dinosaur and a volcano.
