Scorpions
Book Review:
We may be terrified of them because of their poisonous sting that can
cause death, but scorpions are actually quite fascinating creatures.
Do you want to find out more about these 'kings' of the desert insect
world? This book Scorpions written by Conrad J. Storad has almost
full-page photos by Paula Jansen of scorpions in their habitats and
can be an excellent resource for use in the classroom. It is packed
full of interesting facts about these insects such as the names/descriptions
of their body parts, maps showing where they can be found (including
a separate section detailing where in the U.S. they can be found), their
history, the different types of species, their sting, choice foods,
predators, reproduction, life cycles, and so much more. It is written
in very child-friendly language and in a manner that children will find
intriguing. This book can be used in the classroom as a factual resource
guide on scorpions during a desert or insect lesson block. This hardback
also includes a section at the end that contains a glossary, index and
notes to adults on useful techniques to use while sharing the book with
youngsters. It would be a great addition to any inquisitive child's
library.
