Tuesday in Arizona
Since I talked to the students before I read the book about what pack
rats do, they paid a great deal of attention to the pack rat in the
story. They got the humor of the story right away whenever they saw
what the pack rat was doing. A few students continued to call it a mouse
even after the story had been read. A few understood that it was a rat.
They all understood the concept of collecting things, through the examples
provided in the book's illustrations. The following images were made
by two of the students in response to the book. They drew their favorite
scene: the prospector lying under a sombrero, which the rat has eaten
part of so sun leaks through.
