About the Reviewers:
My name is Jennifer Montano, and I am part of the Elementary
Education Cohort 2 through Northern Arizona University (NAU).
I was born in Neptune, New Jersey and moved to Tucson, Arizona
in 1993, when I was 10 years old. I am the oldest of my siblings,
and I have a wonderful five-year-old son, named Zachary, who
started kindergarten this year. He is my biggest inspiration.
I feel very comfortable in a classroom full of students, and
I am eager to begin on my journey of teaching. I believe that
being a teacher requires you to learn as well as teach. I
consider myself a life-long learner. (Fall 2005)
My name is Marla Tapia, and I am a student at NAU in the
BS in Elementary Education program. I was born in Nogales,
Sonora, Mexico and immigrated to the United States when I
was ten years old. I am the oldest of three kids. After I
moved to Nogales, Arizona, on the U. S.-Mexico border, I saw
that many people just like me move to other places where they
have to learn a newlanguage and culture.
I grew up being a bilingual child, and I had a big responsibility,
to teach or help my younger brother and sister learn a new
language, even if it was sometimes frustrating. When I started
high school, my interest was helping others by helping them
understand the American language, the way some teachers had
helped me when I moved here. When I graduated from Nogales
High School, I didn't have the best scores in anything, but
I had the inspiration to some day become a helpful person.
Since then I have been working toward achieving my goals of
becoming that person, a future teacher like my special fifth-grade
teacher or my Spanish teacher. This is who I am. (Fall 2005)
