Amadito and Spider Woman

In the classroom/library:

Lesson Plan:
I shared this story with the 3rd grade classes at Butterfield Elementary during their library time.

Before I read, we had a brief discussion about being teased:
What are feelings? Have you been teased before or teased others? How do you react when you are teased?

I then read the story and students helped complete a web, or a "spider"-web, as suggested by one student.

Then, we discussed the metaphors used in the story.

Goals:
-to use a story to discuss feelings
-to talk about the metaphors used by the author

Objectives:
-students will discuss teasing
-students will discuss feelings
-students will listen to story
-students will identify responses used by the character's family
-students will web different aspects of the story
-students will recognize metaphors used in the story
