Correctamundo! Prickly Pete's Guide to
Desert Facts & Cactifracts
Book Review:
Correctamundo! Prickly Pete's Guide to Desert Facts & Cactifracts
by David Lazaroff is a fun and exciting book. It discusses many facts
about the desert along with many misconceptions. The author loves to
get the reader involved. In the classroom, it can be used to invite
the students interact with the book's reader - thereby increasing listeners'
connections with the story. The book goes through many ideas that people
have about the desert and then has the reader guess if it is a "fact"
or a "cactifract" (false). The answers are found on the next
page making the listeners anxious for the reader to turn to the next
page. Lazaroff includes many facts about the desert as well as making
learning fun and interesting for the readers.
The illustrations in this book are very colorful. Preston Neel did
a good job illustrating the illusion the author wants the reader to
imagine. The reader follows a mouse as it goes through the desert and
while figuring out all the fact or fiction of the information along
with the reader. The illustrations still leave room for imagination
but they do an amazing job animating the content of the story.
