The Treasure of Ghostwood Gully: A Southwest Mystery

Book Review:

This book has beautiful illustrations that are sure to draw the attention of any child. They are masterfully done in bright pastels with incredible detail. The story is about a sly coyote that wishes to play a trick on her friends. She tells them about a treasure hunt, and they all want to go, but they exclude Stinkeroo who wanted to participate in the adventure. Coyote sends Gecko, Hare, and Bobcat to Ghostwood Gully for the treasure. The journey is a little scary and kind of silly but better than sleeping.

The writer uses a poetic pattern that naturally provides action and brings suspense into the story, which makes reading it aloud for groups a lot of fun. In the end, the characters are surprised from an unexpected source leaving readers with a good message about inclusion and friendship. This book is a wonderful tool that can be used to teach the poetic method onomatopoeia. It uses such words as "Rittle-Rattle" and "Ka-thumpty-bump" to help draw the reader into the story even more.
