Way Out West Lives a Coyote Named Frank

I shared this book with Connie Bailey's first grade class at Vesey Elementary School. After reading the book, the students were given the beginning of this sentence. "If I had a desert animal, it would be...". They started by drawing the picture of their animals. Then they finished the sentence and wrote a short story to name their desert animal. Mrs. Bailey's students were very particular, and spent a lot of time making their artwork and sentences perfect.

This is Alexis's drawing of her desert animals.

If I had a desert animal, it would be a coyote and its name would be Ladeda. A scorpion and a snake were chasing Ladeda. but she ate them. - Alexis

A drawing of Violetta's coyote.

If I had an animal, it would be a tortoise. Its name would be Twister. He was hiding behind a rock when I found him and everyone liked him. - Violetta

A drawing of Desiree's tortoise.

If I had an animal, it would be a tortoise. I would name it Alex. I like tortoises a lot. - Desiree

Melissa's coyote with a hankerchief.

If I had a desert animal, it will be a coyote. Its name would be Brownie because I like it. - Melissa
